From the lakes to the mountains, from Lebanon to Littleton, Grafton County is a diverse and thriving community. In this new segment, the team at GRDC spends some time with our region’s small businesses; what made them go into business? How are they supporting their neighbors, and in turn, how is the community supporting them? What advice do they have for startups?
Lisbon Riverside Market
Rebekah Dumont, owner.
GRDC: Tell us a little bit above Lisbon Riverside Market, how long have you been in business?
Rebekah: I’ve been involved in running grocery stores on and off since 1999 through my brother and sister-in-law. In 2016, my brother offered me the opportunity to lease his store in Lisbon, Northrop’s Market. Now four years later, I’m thrilled to finally own the location as Lisbon Riverside Market. We’re a full-service grocery store with daily- cut meat, deli, and fresh produce.
GRDC: That’s great, you’ve been in the business so long.
Rebekah: I have been in the customer service industry for more than half of my life. I was 14 years old when I started working in small gas stations and then waitressing and finally in grocery stores. I’ve always loved being in the service industry, interacting with the public, and being a member of the community.
GRDC: Speaking of community, what are some ways that you have been going above and beyond for your customers?
Rebekah: I feel our business serves all possible needs for our community …. if there’s an item we don’t carry, I’ll do my best to track it down for the customer.
And now, with the pandemic, people come to my store and feel safe shopping here. It’s a smaller environment, and I think that has really appealed to people, and while they’re here, they realize all of the great products and goodies we carry. I think customers have really enjoyed the “small store” feel and the services we offer.
GRDC: I’m sure! And it’s so important right now to be good neighbors. So how have your neighbors been supportive over the last few months?
Rebekah: They’ve been so supportive, so thankful, and grateful for us staying open and my staff working hard. I’m beyond thankful for all of their support and encouragement.
GRDC: That’s great! So what’s in store for Lisbon Riverside Market?
Rebekah: Just keep offering great customer service and great products. I want shopping here to be a fun, family experience.
GRDC: And do you have any advice for someone just starting out, what would you tell them?
Rebekah: All I can say is if you want it, it will happen. You are the creator of your own future and can make anything happen if you work hard.
GRDC: Thanks Rebekah, it’s been a real pleasure speaking with you, and we wish you all the best!
